The Scouting Report:
The three-day breeze show featured horses on display, with each day showcasing a different track condition. Day 1 saw the deepest and slowest track, while Day 2, following heavy rain, had a fast track with a tailwind that boosted the horses’ times significantly. On Day 3, the track slowed down but was not as deep as Day 1.
Now, let’s talk about this horse, HIP 114, a son of THOUSAND WORDS. He breezed a strong 10.3 (on Day 1, over the slowest track), showing efficient and fluid action (see breeze video) and a visually beautiful gallop out. Slow-motion video confirmed his exceptional movement. Additionally, his stride length of 24.5 feet, which exceeded the average by nearly a full foot, positioned him in the top quadrant. Standing at 15.3 hands, he possesses a beautiful walk, strong body, and excellent balance, ticking all the boxes on our list of must-get horses. We are thrilled to have him, especially considering his clean vet report.
Julie Davis, the consignor, expressed her complete endorsement for him continuing right on to the track, stating that he “loves his job” and has a playful demeanor.
The Plan:
Acquired on May 21, 2024, the two-year-old colt was shipped via Brookledge to the Thomas Morley barn at Belmont on May 22nd. Although it is common for horses to benefit from a rest after a sale, this particular colt received an absolutely clean veterinary report, leading us to believe that he is capable of continuing his training without interruption. While Tom will initially take it easy on him for a few weeks, we believe that instead of imposing a mandatory break, it is best to train him further and allow his performance to guide us. If the horse’s training goes smoothly without any interruptions, it has a high probability of making its debut in Saratoga in August.
